Straightening Hair

Some chemical preparations are potent, and all treatments need to be done professionally.  Since it's your own hair, why not give it your very best professional attention?

Straightening of your hair can easily be overdone.  Do Not Do It Yourself!  Let your hair be professionally straightened once or twice a year.

Caring For Your Hair

WASHING HAIR

While washing your hair, avoid using very hot water.  Hot water causes the pores on the scalp to open up.  Avoid combing your hair while it's still wet because it is very fragile in that state.  If you must comb while it's wet, then use a wide-toothed comb.

LONG HAIR:

To untangle and comb long hair, start combing down gently at the portion closest to the tips.  Gradually move the start point closer to the scalp as you continue.  Hair conditioners should be applied in the same manner- from the ends of the hair to the scalp.

When you decide to grow your hair longer, trimming only the ends every 4 weeks will promote healthier hair.  It will also give you a more finished look until you achieve your desired length.

Get Rid of Flyaways for Good

Nothing makes a cut or style look messier than those pesky little floating strays.  At Leonardo's Salon in Rockville Centre, NY, National Cosmetology Association member James Bilello makes sure that his clients walk out the door looking sleek and polished, no matter what the weather.  "To get rid of flyaways,"  James says, "I spray a light working hairspray on my hands until they are wet- remember that hairspray evaporates quickly!  Then I lightly touch the stray hairs, smoothing them along the head."  But James doesn't stop there.  "Next," he says, "I spray my hands again and place my hands at the roots and push from underneath to restore any volume I may have lost.  Our clients love it because their hair feels soft and looks polished and full."
